I recommend using Lunar Client because it's clean, it's easy to use, and it is has really useful settings for pvping such as a fps and cps counter, the ability to run automatically, and even settings for hypixel skyblock which I highly recommend.

I have a crappy computer and I was able to run 100 mods and I had 70 fps with optifine rather than 10 fps without optifine. But if you care about performance from when you are pvping then I suggest using an external client

Optifine, imo, is better because sodium uses fabric loader. I don't know much about fabric loader but it doesn't allow you to use mods. Optifine on the other hand uses forge so you can use optifine to render your minecraft settings and use mods to run at a better performance. .
