Since the last post about this issue I have learned I have been wronged, I apologise for the missinformation I have helped to spread.
Now, I have finally the truth about all of this to settle who is who in this chaotic mess.
The fact is that nothing of this is fault of parents, kids, the FTC or COPPA.
All the fault here is of the one and only Youtube.
To clarify the legal aspects.
The sole purpose of the FTC and COPPA is to protect the privacy of people under 13 on the internet, wich is actually very good.
About the problematic grey zone between kids content and adults content, it is intentional as the law recognises that although for example animation attracts kids it can also be enjoyed by adults so the FTC is only interested in content CLEARLY and PURPOSELY created and TARGETED for kids.
If you make a parody of a kids show where you drop a nuclear device and everyone dies the FTC won't be interested, COPPA won't apply and there won't be trouble about it.
So you will be guessing right now... then why the heck is all of this happening?!?!
Youtube.
Eversince they published their video about COPPA their purpose has been to missinformate everyone to send all the negative feedback to COPPA but they are the ones playing dirty.
The FTC has not forced them into giving us 2 options whether our videos are for kids or not it has been youtube who did it by themselves!
Youtube is who neglects to give an appropiate response because they are greedy, and they want to create hate against COPPA to stop the law COMPLETELY.
They will try everything in their hand to have the same business model as previous to their fine.
Because they badly dont wan't to loose all of this income.
And finally about fines if a video is branded, in the case you didnt answered them after they asked you about the video.
The 42.000 dollar fine is a lie.
