A New Event Queuing System?

A New Event Queuing System?

Ok I'm gonna be a bit lazy and copy and paste some of what I written in this petition, please give it a read. :P

If you're reading this, chances are you are aware of a a YouTuber by the name of Skeppy regularly holds minigame events on his Minecraft server for random players to join for a chance to win prizes - and recently, prize winnings for such events have amounted up to $1,000! As you can imagine, these events generate a lot of hype and masses of people want to try their chances at winning one of these events and being featured in a famous YouTuber's video.

I am creating this petition because I feel the queuing system for these events is flawed, you join the server and execute /joinqueue event-a/b, you join the queue and you enter a mire of uncertainty as to whether you will actually get in, queues are usually large and can last for hours.

I feel the queuing system is flawed because I've heard stories of people leaving their computers on for up to 8 hours just to get into one of these events! I feel it is also unfair on international community because it means having to be up at the early hours of the morning to get a chance of getting into one of these events! We are in the age of saving the planet and reducing waste! And I feel going to such measures just to get into a Minecraft server event, that you have a low chance of getting into anyway, is tiresome and unaccommodating.

My proposition: A webpage in which users can enter their IGN (username), and every day a machine will pick 150 random usernames to be whitelisted on the events server. Users can choose to be notified either by SMS or email if they have been whitelisted. There could also be a half-hour grace period for users who struggle with poor internet coverage or are unresponsive.

The players that were chosen to be in the last event will be blacklisted from being picked again for the rest of the week, to allow new players to get a chance to play and to prevent players from getting picked numerous times over in the same week.

After the week is over the blacklist gets reset and we start over.

Ideas for a web domain are something like: 'events.invadedlands.net' or 'join.invadedlands.net'

no ones forcing you to queue

solution: dont wait in the queue at all

Hi Joe,

you raise a fair point, yes, nobody's forcing me to queue and sometimes I don't bother myself, but I think it's very unreasonable for people who have to leave their computers on throughout the day to get a chance of getting in, I think if this system was implemented it would be much easier and much fairer on players who want to get a chance of playing.

I also think because Skeppy is a big YouTuber now, the hype surrounding these events is only going to increase and the queuelength and queuing times are going to increase also. So i think there should be a fairer, more reasonable system where it doesn't require people having to leave their computers on wasting their electricity bill on trying to get onto a mc server event you may not get into anyway! Just a thought.

I feel like this is such a complex thing to do for such a simple thing. If you don’t get in, oh well just wait another day.

sure, there could be better ways, but I know for a fact these skeppy fans aren't gonna be checking their emails

That would be a nice idea, if not for some critical flaws. How do you notify people? Will they actually join? And them joining takes precious time. Much better for Skeppy to keep it like this. Easier and quicker content.

Hi Mxxrcell,

It really isn't, it's as simple as this:

A webpage, you can enter your username.
Everyday a machine picks 150 usernames to join the events.
If you have been picked or you win the event you can't play again for the rest of the week
When the weeks over everything is reset.

You can also choose to be notified by email or sms if you've been whitelisted...

Hi KimJonqUn,

This is a Minecraft forums. You don’t need to write this in a letter format. It is not that deep.
Sincerely,
Casey

Setting this up is too much effort for very little positive effect, and negative effect on content.

A better solution is to cap the player limit at 300-400 players, when someone leaves it reopens OR release an event rank for priority in the queues.

Hi casey,

I'm writing like this because I'm trying to be polite as possible.

yeah i get your point, but it's the fact that so many people want to play and it's only available to those who are willing to leave their computers on for ridiculous amounts of time! It's literally unhealthy and unreasonable.

another solution, why wait in skeppys event and waste your electricity as you say when you can, hear me out, get a job
