If you are commenting on people's posts then later on 100 other people reply, you will get notified. There is a feature in your "Preferences" setting which is automatically enabled on account creation that automatically makes you "watch" threads you interact with (reply to basically). To fix it just untick the box in settings and vwoalahaha. No more notification spam!
