The people you mentioned made friends with the entire community not to get free ranks, but to make genuine friendships. Posting things like this sends the message that your only looking to make friends for the possibility of getting a free rank. Try and throw away that mentality and make friends to simply have a friend. You'll find that you will enjoy the game more with no rank and friends rather than having a rank and no friends.
