It is very common now for people to eat and run. It's a new trick found out about like 2 months ago. Here you can learn how to from this:

Eating and running is possible in minecraft on versions 1.7 and 1.8, a very well known pot pvper made a video on how to eat while running while using no cheats/modifications, but they can be cheating not sure but just saying, it is possible

yes i was indeed using idiols method to run and crapple thats why sometimes it didnt work. the reason he didnt chew is because you cant see the chew in 1st person POV. if you see from 3rd person you will see it's chewing. its not bannable because its a default minecraft mechanic.
its understandable though, only good pvpers use it so I expect you wouldn't know
