Rod Killing Illegal?

Rod Killing Illegal?

This was being discussed in Global chat on skyblock today, and players, including myself were unsure. I have not seen this answered by a staff member before so I am making a thread about it to link in the future if the question comes up.

You can deal knockback to players anywhere with a fishing rod no matter where they are. Meaning you can kill players while they are AFK on their own islands, or even use it to gain advantages in player-hosted events. I believe that this should be against the rules as it is a form of griefing, and can harm other players causing them to loose items due to exploitations of a glitch/expoit.
The main argument I can think of here is "just lock your island" however this is not an option for many, including myself, because the economy is based on profit shops, and we need to keep the islands we AFK open overnight to maximize income. This means that certain people will warp to the island, and come and kill the afk people. "Just Island ban them". This has been happening to me overnight, and I do not know who is doing it. Even if I boxed myself in so that I could not get killed by these people, it would be decreasing the overall efficiency of my cactus farm.

My main point here is:
Preventing rod exploiters cannot be done without going out of your way, and decreasing overall efficiency of cactus farms.

We should not have to go out of our way to prevent these kind of things, and should be against the rules from the start. (If it is not already). I would like a staff response on whether or not we can report for these things (with evidence). And if not, please explain why abuse of this exploit is allowed.

idk /is lock is always a thing and if you need players in your island just don't give them accesses to places where you afk. as you yourself have said before this would just add to the already massive amount of work staff deal with.

I’m not sure you read my whole post, but I explained why /is lock is not an option for many. And space+ players have access to /jump which means you can’t block them off from parts of the island. I can’t imagine this would add too much work to staffs load as it would only be a few extra player reports. The same as griefing reports on survival.

is there a way of disabling fishing rods to damage/deal knockback to players? if so i don't see why they shouldn't be disabled. i don't know minecraft that well so i don't know if this is an option.
can anyone explain why it would be necessary to give players the ability to deal damage/knockback to other players in the first place? thanks

i see it 100% correct and i agree with all youve said. there should be a /damage toggle. to not abuse it you only do it when not i combat for 1 hour. its only for survival and skyblock as you know, this happens in survival as well. i think a develoepr should fix it. ik its hard to detect it from a player as im a dev too. but its possible to turn off damage recieving from any entity or player also they prob should make it u can turn damage off from your island. you can perform this action only when not in combat. ty.

some people use it as fishing rod sumo, there are some rr / parkour events that allow rods to be used, and some people just like hitting each other with a rod. i don’t think disabling it would be as good as an idea as making it a togglable setting in /is settings.

and please dont blame staffs or devs they do their best to fix everything and we just make their work much harder with: hacking / duping. i never duped but some people do dupe. as the thing that happened in surval.

personally i don’t think that a damage toggle for yourself would be as good of an option as a setting for your island, since this is skyblock not survival. also, the one dev we have is working on 4 servers so i think it would make sense to say “he is working on other server” instead of “he does his best to fix everything.” when survival released, they didn’t even bother to fix the dupe until someone used it, even though it was probably the same dupe that was on sb, which they already fixed. and all the servers had a ton of bugs that they could have probably fixed with a couple hours of testing.

ah okay! i did not know the use of dealing damage/knockback via fishing rods but i agree. the next idea in my mind was making it toggable in /is settings. i think this should be made into a suggestion. i dont see any downsides to this

it should be an is setting toggleable by all island members and not just the owner

don't know if what i'm about to say is stupid or not, but isn't there a way for devs/managers to just.. make fishing rods not affect the players

This isn’t like me requesting for the bug to get fixed, I just want to know if it it against the rules to abuse this exploit. Sort of like block glitching in Kit pvp, it isn’t something they can fix, but abusing it to gain an advantage is punishable.
