If the word gay is censored shouldnt other words be?

Since the word gay is censored "to stop people using it in a derogative or insulting manner and causing lots of toxicity", why are more words not censored as they also have a normal meaning as well as a derogatory connotation, as well as other words which have other inappropriate meanings behind them or can be used in that way.

There are already measures in place to regulate and prevent homophobia and other forms of toxicity, such as bans and mutes which will deter people from using it and people that do will be punished appropriately. You could argue that uncensoring the word "gay" would lead to toxicity as people can use it for derogatory reasons, but it also has positive connotations and even though it is censored it can be evaded like when people log on and use variations of the n-word to evade the filter and they would be punished just the same.

Words that can be used "derogatory" or are "inappropriate":
  • Sex
  • Autism
  • Stupid
  • Idiot
  • Fat
  • Ugly
  • Dog
  • Waste of space
  • Piss
  • Every other sexuality or gender identity
In conclusion, either all all words with a primarily derogatory meaning should be censored or the word "gay" should be uncensored.

I think rap's point is to point out that it's kind of dumb to censor a word that has a normal and harmless definition, since measures are already in place to punish players who use a word in a harmful manner
 
I think the issue is due to the fact that gay is used more in a derogatory manner than any others you mentioned.
  • Sex - I have always wondered why this isn't filtered.
  • Autism - I see no issue with it being filtered.
  • Stupid - No.
  • Idiot - Bloody hell, could even say this at primary school without it being an issue.
  • Fat - No.
  • Ugly - No.
  • Dog - No.
  • Waste of space - Just no.
  • Piss - Depends where you're from if you view this as a curse word at all tbh.
  • Every other sexuality or gender identity - Never see "Heterosexual" get used in a derogatory manner.

Most of these can and are used derogatorily and that is my point that they should not be censored just because they have a negative connotation. Also the word "straight" has been used with malice before.

because while they can be used to insult, they are not used homophobically and won't make a certain group of people feel insulted.

it has positive connotations sure, but if it were to be unfiltered i don't think there would be very many people using it positivly

people don't use these derogitorily. i don't see anyone saying "that's so bisexual" instead of saying "that's so gay".

no, gay is censored because it's homophopic when used innapropriatly and invaded doesn't want people to get offended. none of the other words you listed are homophobic.

but "lesbian" isn't used derogitorailly. people don't say "that's so lesbian" or "ur lesbian lmao". if they want to filter that shortened form because it is used derogitorally then i don't see a problem, but just "lesbian" shouldn't be.
 
I understand why it's filtered because they don't want any derogatory speech towards their players regarding the word gay, but I honestly feel since its connotations are not solely negative, it isn't really needed to filter. it's not like the word gay is used only as a slur. slurs regarding homosexuality should be filtered but definitely not the sexuality itself. having gay filtered would be like filtering races because of racial slurs. I see why they would want it filtered, but in my opinion, it's unnecessary to filter it.

All I am saying is, invaded should mute the people that use gay as an insult. And not censor the word because people can use it in a derogative or insulting manner. I know the moderation team is capable enough of muting people that say the word in a bad way. I just don't think it's fair for the people that actually wanna use the word properly.

Fair enough then. Maybe gay should be unfiltered but other than that I'm withdrawing myself from this debate because I'm truly not in a position to know the offense that can be taken from a lot of these words.
 
Whilst all of you got valid points, I feel like obviously a few words should be censored, but not 'gay' for example. It's pretty much all down to the context they use it in but I mean, I don't know how some people feel about it being said in general - just talking about the word 'gay' btw

I think it's pretty much 90% down to context
