idk abt him but when i did comsci in highschool we started with java and by the time we graduated we were on c/c++

I think you should start with Visual Basic, Java is much long and not easy. If you are still considering learning Java buy CodeGym.cc

NetBeans is an amazing compiler for beginners if you are really set on trying Java. It will auto-fill some commands and explain what they are, how they work, and what they do.

Jusg know you need to know both mysql and java syntax. But imo mysql syntax isn't too difficult
