So basically, it was weird, the same map glitch was happening in skyblock too, but you need to make the mapart in chunks- when you're finished with the chunk, then you can place 2 slabs underneath--but only when you're finished with the chunk (16x16 blocks)
If you place the slabs before you're finished with with the entire chunk, you'll need to do the slab trick on every single block that doesn't show up on the map in that chunk. It's very annoying and time consuming.
But it was weird- when I was finishing it last night, I noticed at times the map was updating itself, and that sometimes missing pieces didn't need both slabs to show up on the map anymore. Who knows
