Hello, I wanted to write about something I consider as an issue. InvadedLands staff, for some infractions, doesn't have a standard punishment; this means that each staff can choose which punishment to give to a certain player. This would be a problem on certain servers because mods can give harsher punishments to players they don't like, while being able to justify their actions. But I like to believe InvadedLands is free from these kinds of mods. Also, in the rules, there's a line saying to use common sense. Basically it means, these are the rules but there can be other rules mods can enforce without you knowing. And it's fine in most cases. But in some cases it's a bit stretched. Rules state "No DDoS Threats", and the common sense rule tells us that encouraging someone to DDoS a certain IP or server is bad. But joking about DDoS in a way that doesn't leak any IP or encourages DDoSing any server or user? DDoSing a local IP is a stupid concept, it's clearly a joke. But since it mentions DDoSing, I understand why it warrants a mute or even a ban from Discord if the joke was written there. This is what happened over 6 months ago, I (and a bunch of other people) made a joke and a few of us got banned. The problem is, that the moderator that banned us chose to not operate any other punishment elsewhere; it was another staff member, that later decided to blacklist me (and me alone, apparently) until I brought a screenshot showing two other people that hadn't been punished. I don't know what happened to them. This means that for something that's up to a staff member to decide if it's an infraction or not, there can be punishments ranging from a discord mute or ban to a minecraft server permanent blacklist, with appeals getting denied. Now, I recently appealed and got the blacklist reduced (I did make the joke, and Zelk along with the moderator that banned me on discord and admin that blacklisted me consider it as an infraction) but leaving this much to the discretion of a staff member doesn't seem like a great idea. I've been staff on quite a few servers, and they all have guidelines regarding how to enforce rules (all the punishments to apply in case of an infraction), and if something isn't in the guidelines the mod asks to the staff team to get an opinion, and the guidelines are updated.
What are your thoughts on this?
I'm sorry for the long post, I didn't mean to complain on my particular situation, but I've seen cases of people having controversial punishments and I wanted to get some feedback.
