It means that higher staff is reviewing it. They acknowledged the possibility of it being valid, so they're checking logs.

A few months ago your ban appeal could take up to 2 months to get resolved however nowadays it takes roughly 1 to 3 days (sometimes it gets resolved in the same day)

My appeal made the first of February wasn't answered and got purged. I guess the purge was for the best since it greatly sped up the time for an answer.

It means it goes to a higher member of staff to review

Ban Appeals will take 24 Hours at the very least, you have to be patient and remember we have hundreds sent to us every day. If your appeal is escalated, it just means it's awaiting review from a higher up staff member.
