I have never seriously been punished on any servers, but i would like to know what the real difference between a ban and a blacklist is. I know Blacklisted users cannot buy an urban, and their appeals are usually handled worse. But what can someone do to receive a blacklist rather than a ban and vise versa?

blacklists are usually handed out for more severe punishments. Blacklists make it so that no one with the IP of the blacklisted account can connect to the server.

Bans are usually recieved for less harmful actions, like cheating, glitching, abusing bugs etc. Sometimes, if you are toxic enough, you might get banned for that too. Blacklists, however, are recieved when you do really harmful stuff (like duping) or are repeatedly breaking the rules (by ban evading and cheating on alts as an example).
The reason why blacklists are handled "worse" is because only managers have the access to them.

Blacklists are also given from anything DDoS-related, from threats to even harmless jokes. Don't mention it, consider it as a banned word.
