I was cleaning up my drive as university graduation nears, and I found digital boxes and boxes of memories from this server. The good, the bad, but mostly the good. I think I played here as a way of being in denial about all of it: college admissions, and teenage life generally.
I'm not even sure if anyone from the time I played is still around (I wouldn't be surprised if no one really is). I joined around 2018, staffed for a bit, was on and off, and resigned as staff a year or so after covid.
What I found was mostly screenshots. Hundreds of them, most of which meant nothing to me for a good few seconds before they suddenly meant everything. Random admin builds on kitpvp I was proud of at the time that were, in hindsight, ugly as sin. Chat logs and clips I'd saved as evidence for tickets I don't remember resolving. A folder titled "clips" that turned out to be about ninety percent of me losing fights, and raging whilst blaming on my ping.
The staff period is the part I think about most. I was young, and it was the first thing I'd ever really done where other people were relying on me to show up. Handling reports taught me how to read a situation before reacting to it, and how to write something firm without being cruel (well, for the most part (I WAS 15!!!)). I genuinely think it made me better at things I do now for actual money, which is a strange thing to say about a Minecraft server, but it's true. It also made me a fast typist: I was an avid arguer in forum threads, where speed and accuracy both matter (people will laugh at you for spelling errors).
Mostly it was the people, though. If any of you ever see this: a decent chunk of my teenage social life happened in a voice call with people here at a stupid hour of the morning, because none of us could ever agree on a timezone. I don't play much anymore. Trying to pvp on my laptop now, I have no idea how I fought the way I did on a school-issued MacBook Air that these days would work better as a space heater. Life did what life does. But I'm glad I kept the folder, and I'm glad the forum's still here to post this on.
