Crashes and Whitelisting?

I joined earlier today, after watching zelk for awhile. But the servers have gone down about 5 times since I started, and the servers have been globally whitelisted once, what's going on?

pretty much fishing rods caused server lag and stuff. servers kept crashing so they whitelisted it so they can fix everything
