DC on film is hit or miss for me, it’s seen some tough times. To the disastrous release of Wonder Woman 1984 to the nightmish release of birds of prey, and the surprise success of the Suicide Squad that they immediely crushed on by mixing the prospects of future movies, i don’t think dc knows what they want for their cinematic universe and it’s no better when directors with conflicting visions are brought in at the 11th hour.

And onto Justice League 2017, a monster of a film that successfully tore apart the entire fanbase in two, it also made Batman the butt of everybody else's jokes, and you all know how I feel with that. Every second of the movie felt like an insult, insult to those who loved the franchise, insult to the characters and their legacies.

The hope persisted of Zack Snyder's original vision brought to life. After a agruious two years of fan campaigns we finally saw the trailer for it at DC fandom, and now it’s been two months since this movie has been released and I’m here to share my thoughts.

Zack Snyder's Justice league is a long campy narratively rich film that manages to improve on its predecessor on a high margin. It’s a sprawling look into what a director can do without having their movie cut into two strings, and that comes with a bloated runtime to say the least. The movie juggles a lot of ideas and it’s no shame that they are trying so much with so little, Snyder makes good use of it’s lengthy runtime.

The characters are much more fleshed out, cyborg has a backstory of sorts and to be quite frank he’s the highlight of the movie for me, he’s secluded from reality coming to grasp with who he and who he is meant to be, by the end of the movie he’s forced to confront his conflicting nature making him stronger and more human, he opens up again finally being the man his father once was and being the hero he was meant to be. In this version of Justice League batman isn’t constantly being brought on for laughs, there’s much more going on here. He’s resourceful, driven by his mistakes, he uses technology to his advantage in order to face larger threats bigger than him.

There’s a whole lot of stuff that gets thrown in, for example the whole epilogue seems out of place and misplaced, and you could probably cut out all the slow motion, it’s jarring at times, and you could most certainly cut down the runtime and it would make for a more leaner fleshed out experience. The finale is far from perfect but every character gets their moment, shock horror the flash is even a key element in the success of the mission, and even the justice league fails.

And it brings one of the coolest spectacles I have seen in a mainstream movie, the flash runs back in time confronting his father in the process and after the motherboxes are detached the league look at darksied for the first time, the camera focuses to superman and him only, which indicates darksied has plans for him in the future. And the movie turns to darksied walking down his fleet of soldiers. It's tense and the excellent soundtrack makes it
all the more memorising to see.

It got me excited and I might let out a few tears in that final act, but overall it’s a good insight into what a director can produce when they are no longer constrained by studio pressure and without any sort of runtime constraints, and in this case it is relevant with Zack Snyder. Overall I have to admit I was surprised on how much it improved on its predecessor and it got me thinking of what could have been. And now it’s all down to if it was worth it in the end
