How does Spawner Stacking work?

So you know when you have an iron golem spawner and you put say 32 spawners in it and every time it spawns 32 golems? So with the lava at the top does it make a difference if there a constantly 30 golems stacked or 100 golems stacked? Also, if it doesn't make a difference how much golems need to be staked until there are 2 stacks?
