how to play on the server?

No, you will have to switch versions. If you don't know how, when you open Minecraft, go to installations and add whichever version. Most people use 1.8.9.

I also recommend using 1.8.9 on servers which support it as it is the best version to use right now.

No, server is hosted on 1.7 - 1.8 you will have to change versions. It is free and if you don't know how go to installations choose download then download a version between 1.7 - 1.8 and go back to the original screen and click the thing in the bottom left and choose the version you downloaded and hit play. Apologies for the bad instructions, if these don't make sense look up "how to change versions in minecraft" and find somebody good at explaining it.
