I assume they will do the same as skyblock and allow versions 1.7-1.16 to be compatible. I don’t see why this could be a bad idea for survival because you can still connect with 1.8 but it also allows you to connect with for example 1.12 and use more diverse items.

To be honest i was against the idea of making survival a higher version too at the start, but when I saw what they did with skyblock, I like it, I want it!

on skyblock they let it be compatible with higher versions but they didnt bring in the pvp mechanics from 1.9+

combat in survival? I get it has warp pvp but if u rly want to pvp you should go to a magical world called kit pvp.
