is it bannable to have a shield?

Edit: I'm not talking about when you right click with a sword, there are shields that you can put in your inventory. Use them normally without holding a sword.
almost half the replies of this forum think that im talking about the pop-up shield.

No, but I'm assuming you're on 1.12.2, if you are, the shield that is appearing and disappearing is the block animation from 1.8.9.

You don't need to have a shield in your inventory, if you're on 1.12+ and right click while holding a sword, a shield will appear instead of the blocking animation.

If it’s a version thing, 1.9+, then the shield will appear only when you right click with your sword. It’s the exact same thing as blocking your sword, just a replaced animation.

If you have the actual item, which I’m not sure how you’d get one, just ask a staff member to remove the item. I don’t think this is punishable, but I may be wrong. ?‍

You can lmao there has been lots of shields on /ah but its a bug where its in your inv and not in your offhand so you can put it in your chest n stuff

smh that is a placeholder for blocking in 1.9+ pvp. Idk if its a via version thing or something with spigot. It grants no advantage infact the server is running 1.12.2

Not many people in this comment section realize that it is actually possible to obtain a literal, physical shield item, detatched from the sword.
It's a glitch. That's why Clinkn was asking in the first place. If you show the shield alone to someone in 1.8, it just comes up as a black banner. If you show it to someone 1.9+, it shows as a normal shield item, and can be used properly.

The mechanics of the 1.9+ compatibility simply lock you from nomally being able to craft these items. That does not, however, mean that obtaining a normal shield is impossible.
