Should griefing near or inbetween towns/bases be allowed?

Do claims ever expire in Survival? If so, after how long does the player have to be inactive for?

I'm asking this question after a lava cast was made all over a town I am in. You could say that this is following up the issue of griefing near claimed land deliberately, which I also think should carry a ban.
 
I don't think claims have an expiration date, because the player could go on a vacation and come back and have all their stuff gone. Idk just what I'm thinking

Maybe they have an expiration date when someone is banned?

claims dont expire and you should just claim far around your base
 
Griefing is only bannable if said grief is penetrating a claim. I understand people being able to lava cast freely is frustrating, but I recommend getting more claim blocks before starting new projects. If your builds are claimed correctly, lava casting won't actually hurt your builds and can be removed fairly easily, unless they claim it.
 
I understand while griefing off of claims is allowed seeing if it doesn't go onto claims. I do agree it would be nice for grief near/around towns to have some form of punishment, but I also think it would be a lot to manage.

Honestly griefing should be allowed but griefing and claiming it shouldn't. But my suggestion for griefing and claiming was denied so I doubt that griefing near towns will be accepted a suggestion either

I see where your coming from with this but staff really can't do anything about it unless the the griefing makes it into your claim. If your claim was somehow griefed, you should definitely make a player report.

Claims never have an expiration date.

One of grizzys claims was removed when he was bled; I've heard from a few people that after a certain amount of time if you don't log on your claims get unclaimed. Not completely sure though

iOutcasts claims were still there after being bled for 4 months

I’ve been griefed multiple times this season and I think it’s important to claim your land properly so this can’t happen. Also it would be very hard for the staff to get proper evidence to be able to ban the griefer without the player getting griefed recording it.
