I havent played for like 3 months on this server i think, and when I logged in today I saw that my house that had my claim previously (the door still has my name on it still) has someone else's claim on it now. why did this happen? do your claims get deleted if you are inactive for a while?

If I remember correctly, after a certain amount of days of the claim owner not being online, the claim is automatically deleted. I believe it was 90 days before that happens. Unfortunately, after the claim is deleted for not being on longer than that time, nothing can be done.
If you don't log onto the server for 3 months then your claim automatically gets removed. Another player just claimed your build once it got unclaimed. You could try asking them to give it back to you, but if they don't there unfortunately isn't anything to be done about it.
