Mods and trainees don't know who your friend is, so I imagine they choose the safest option. For all they know you might be telling that to someone you hate not as a joke

that’s on fucking skeppy. if he thinks it’s a ppropiate for him fine, but when someone complains they get punished on a server for saying it it doesn’t make sense

They deserve the mute because staff can't know who's friends and who isn't. So when they see that in pms or in public chat then they have to punish. They obviously should've read the rules, but their appeal for an unmute should be accepted (if they can proof it was with friends and the friend was okay with it) because at the end of the day it's a joke to a friend. I think there are many many many friendships where you say bad stuff in a laughing matter. Who are you to judge over friendships and what is okay and what isn't.

Well people "joke" about dox threats too, It isn't funny, and as a bonus you get blacklisted. It depends from server to server on the level of to toxicity tolerated. Many servers are okay with all that if used in a context which everyone is comfortable with. But I doubt you'd get permanently muted for just saying "***", maybe you have a history of punishments or the mute wasn't because of that(did it say permanently muted due to "Suicide Encouragement"?). I guess it depends from person to person for what they're okay with it.
 
The mods can't tell if you're talking to your friend or someone you're really trying to bring down, I was muted for this too, sure I thought it was dumb, but I completely understand where they're coming from. Appeal the mute and explain your situation and I'm sure you'll have a decent chance at being unmuted <3
