Protection for players in IRL deals

I recently learned of that, so here is what I said to Wqlk:

"I did not know the server did not endorse IRL deals. Now that I know that I see why this would not happen. However, I do believe it is going to continue to happen because it is so hard to control. Might as well make this experience as positive as possible for everyone. Protected IRL deals means more of them are made, and the more IRL deals are made, the more donations to the server are made. Win-win for literally everybody."
Yeah they wont add a certain protection in my opinion due to the fact it'll just get bypassed anyways. But even if your doing irl deals you always want to ask around and see if the person is trustworthy. if you want some notable players that do irl deals here u go, pezza, carbondrft, pleeded (i think), katie (not often), and other players. Good thread but won't happen sadly.

A guy can try :) but everyone knows those IRL deals will continue to happen, might as well make the best of it.

Exactly, hope staff do something.

I'm going to be brutally blunt with this and I apologize in advance for it.

We could add loads and loads of ways to counter scamming, but the strongest and most efficient way of countering it; is to use your brain.
Being able to identify a scam is a life lesson IMO, and if you cannot identify a scam on Minecraft then it's going to be extremely harsh on the outside world.

-Know the person your trading with
-Make sure they have a good reputation
-Never go first (unless you're extremely confident that you won't be scammed)
and analyze the person you are trading with if they are acting strange or extremely desperate just go with your instinct and play it off safe.

The idea you suggested, it sounds good but it is extremely unnecessary and unneeded.
I struggle to see the IRL trading side of the system, how can you trade IRL money for something in-game on a GUI, if it is a physical item then it holds risks of dupes and all the problems start from there really.

The idea is just over-complicated.
I won't lock this thread because I am curious to see what everyone thinks of it.

:-)

Do you happen to have an image of the /trade GUI? I may be able to better demonstrate what I had in mind that way.

As far as some of the points you mentioned, yes you can really think about how and who to do these deals with, but let's just say a new person to the server joined and they want to get in on these deals, how would they know who to trust or not, and how would they know how these deals work.

Also on the point on "going first", I have heard this multiple times from lots of people, but when I kept bringing up the point of neither side wanting to go first, I either get no answer in response, or I get "well then don't do the deal". This is perfectly fair and valid, but then again I also hear from people all the time who say they want to engage in IRL deals but there are issues with who goes first. The fact is no one really wants to go first in these situations and that's totally understandable. That was the focus of this idea in the first place so people would not have to worry about that.

And just on the last point, people can be very manipulative. Just because someone is a smooth talker, doesn't mean they have good intentions. Anyone who wants to scam could be as patient as they would like. And don't forget that much of the audience for this game (and this server) are impressionable people of younger age who may not be able to detect when someone is being suspicious.

Thank you for being blunt! It's definitely something needed in the right times when issues are being debated so I very much appreciate it! I hope to see a reply from you based on things I had to say in return! :)

i see like 3477442 ways this can be duped
There could be various methods of delivery, all of which could be presented and debated. I do recognize that Pleeded's idea could be taken advantage of, and my method would be very hard to develop, so I am very interested in hearing other thoughts and opinions! However, the main idea for me was to start the conversation of protection in general, no matter how the execution of the idea looks like.

Thanks for sharing your feedback!! :)

Just as an FYI I feel as though most people look for IRL trades because they want the advantages that different perks have, but for whatever reason are unable to purchase them (financial issues, age restrictions, lack of trust in the internet idk lol). I feel as though that dedicated players who want these perks and spend much time in-game should be able to at least have a shot of getting the perks they want, and this idea would protect those players from having hours of work wiped away.

The server receives donations from these IRL deals regardless so it isn't like IL loses from these IRL deals. If anything, the more IRL deals are made, the more donations are made to the server. In my opinion, if I was operating IL (seeing IL as an operation and not just a server), I would want to protect these IRL deals on the basis that 1) more of them are made so it would increase the number of donations to my server and 2) it would drastically decrease the amount of players disgruntled over botched IRL deals (and coming from a business perspective, a happy customer is a returning customer, meaning people who have positive IRL experiences would do it again and the cycle starts again).

a way to stop scamming to to make people paying IRL to go first, this way if you scam them you will be banned, if they refuse to go first, they are most likely a scammer.

That has been said many times. I would refer you to my previous answers in the thread.

D_Rodrigo,
This is a good idea but I’m not sure IRL deals are the best things, if the server did not set up a purchase in the store In which you may buy in game currency they Obviously did not favor the idea of purchasing in game money. I think voiding that decision and purchasing ranks for other people and receiving money for it is dangerous. As stated in the store you will get banned for charge backs and the buyer is 1 step away from charging back and getting you banned forever. But overall this idea is fantastic and the work you put into this post is equally amazing.

Thank you! Sadly I have to concede that this won't happen, but hopefully, the attention brought to it made everyone more aware of the issue and will be more careful going forward!
