Skyblock, as a gamemode itself is pretty fun. If you don't like the cut-throat atmosphere of kitpvp or factions, but you still want that competitive side, Skyblock is really fun. You can create your island and live peacefully, grind to the top and then fight, or you can just go straight into the fight.
Skyblock, in my opinion is pretty strategy based, as well as server based. If you're tactical with how you spend your early resources then you can easily climb and have one of the strongest islands on the server. But if you waste your resources then you're pretty much screwed early on.
I generally play Skyblock competitively, but I do enjoy the peaceful life from time to time.
