It'll most likely effect you more than anything as the server is based around 1.12. So there is all the new blocks and items from 1.9 up until 1.12 that you won't be able to see.

since ur here, what would a block, like concrete, be replaced with, cuz there are many 1.12 blocks that are no where close to 1.8 blocks

I'm not entirely sure what everything replaces to, but I believe concrete in this case turns to stained clay for 1.8 players.
