I LOVE SKEPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!! ??????????????????????SKEPppy
this is like the first time i acc read a long thread ? . +1Sorry this thread is long, but I swear it is worth the read
It is not often that I criticize the server, however this is something I want to talk about. I would like to preface this by saying this is not to criticize Luke or anybody else that helped with the event, I think they did a fine job today, and everyone makes mistakes which is my main point.
Several threads have been made regarding today's event, and I want to come up for a solution for this, instead of just complaining.
As someone who was an Admin, and former event manager on EventMC, a large event server, I personally think InvadedLands should not try to continue with the current event system for a number of reasons. The first reason, is that the community of "event players" that play on servers such as "The Events" and "Corner network" (If that is still the name I don't play the servers) are mostly the same large group of people. InvadedLands will obviously bring in a slightly different crowd, but this group of people will always make up a good 1/5th of the event's players. This group of players is EXTREMELY toxic. They have little to no empathy when it comes to the people running the event or the server, they think that every single person should be completely perfect, especially if the given event has a money prize. If you make on mistake while hosting an event, they will spam chat, dms, stream chat, or anything complaining to let them back in and if you don't they call the event bad, and that they deserved to win.
Lets take Converging's situation for example:
If Luke saw it happening, he probably would have just saved him, but obviously Luke didn't. If converging sent the clip and he got back in, a dozen other people would complain that they didn't also get let back in. I understand the frustration, as yeah, it isn't fair that you died in a way you can't control, but it is virtually impossible for the event's host to catch everything and be 100% fair to everyone. In reality, a Minecraft event is just a giveaway, and the event is just a fun way to decide the winner. This concept doesn't sit well with some people that are very competitive and cannot stand to loose. There is really no way to avoid this from happening, and no matter what the event is, or how well the host handles it, someone will always complain.
MY SUGGESTION:
The issue is the concept of someone "hosting an event". Its extremely hard for 1-3 people to properly monitor 100-200 players, and there will almost always be mistakes. Since this style of events has been somewhat burnt out over the last year or so, with skeppy hosting them, then multiple servers jumping on the idea, I think there should be a new idea, specific to Invaded, that we can do.
Instead of hosting events on seperate servers with a queue like this, implement the scheduled events into a gamemode, and encourage people to play said gamemode. If events are hosted on current servers, they should require minimal/no action from the host(s). Events like this should also keep the chat on the entire time unless the host is saying something. When it first begins people will spam, but it will die out after a bit. It is better to have it unmuted so players can always request help.
Examples:
1. Have a system to track actions over a set amount of time:
For example, Person to kill the most other players in an hour gets a reward. You would not even need a host for this, just a decent plugin to do it automatically. This sort of thing could be announced a day or two in advance, and bring players to the server, while having an intense hour on Kit. This could be done on survival with something like "Who can mine the most diamonds in an hour" (Obviously staff would need to monitor this for x-rayers). Skyblock could also have something like this, like "Who can farm the most wheat in an hour" Players would need to spend the days leading up to the event making a large wheat farm on their island, and spend the hour farming as much as they could.
2. Hide N seek:
This can be done on any gamemode, and is very simple, on kit, hide someone or something somewhere on the map, and first to find it gets a reward. This would engage players quite a lot and I think would be very fun. KitPVP can just be anywhere, skyblock could be at a random island warp (hints could be given like the island warp starts with <letter>. And survival could have a coordinate range. This event would be great because it is simple, and players have an option to participate or not.
3. Parkour map:
This sort of thing could be done on the current event servers, and has almost no way of being "scuffed". Just have a builder make a map and first to complete it gets a prize. Very simple, only thing I can suggest is give people perm invisibility or everyone will complain. The only issue is that this event is not very fun for people to watch on stream or youtube or what not.
The above examples are not all. If anyone has any more suggestions for host-less events that could be hosted, or criticism on my thread/ideas, please leave them in the replies.
