Protection for players in IRL deals

Hi everyone!

So this idea came from me silently crying about me getting scammed, but I had an idea that I believe would be beneficial to everyone.

More and more often I see people advertising that they are interested in IRL deals, and I feel both the people paying real money, and the people paying their hard-earned in-game money could both benefit from some protection. So this idea is for if/when the trade command comes back, I had an idea to add an escrow feature to the GUI.

What on Earth am I talking about?

Escrow is a bond, document, or deed kept by a third party that only takes effect once a certain condition has been met.

I see this as a potentially useful addition to the /trade GUI. Using the same style of the /buy GUI, players can select what they are expecting to receive (be it a rank upgrade, commands, or crate keys), and place the agreed-upon amount in escrow. The InvadedLands console would be serving as the third party, guaranteeing no one will get scammed and the deal either goes off without a hitch or can be canceled without and hard feelings. Once the player gets his/her shop purchase, the other user would receive the in-game currency being held. This idea (on paper) to me seems like a no brainer.

The Pros:
  • It would be near impossible for scammers to keep ruining the experience for others.
  • People would be more trusting of IRL deals, potentially bringing the community closer together.
  • Less spam in the chat.
  • InvadedLands profits from in-game currency generation.
  • Ingame benefits from the store are more attainable for committed players who cannot donate for whatever reason.
  • It could function for PVP and Skyblock game modes as well.
The Cons:
  • A logistical nightmare to set up, would be a lot of time and effort.
  • Yeah, I cannot really think of anything else but by all means, tell me if I am missing something.
Please, by all means, open a conversation with me on what you think about the idea, I am very happy to talk about my idea and any questions anybody has ?. Any criticism or feedback is welcome, and I welcome everyone's point of view on it!

Thank you for your time!

Edit #1: @Pleeded (thank you for joining the forums to offer your feedback) came up with a great option to put this into effect! His idea was if you buy anything with the '/buy' GUI, it would produce a piece of paper that contained the item, which could then be traded to other players. This idea would make the coding process easier for the developers! Thank you Pleeded!

Edit #2:
I recently learned that IRL deals are not endorsed by staff and the IL higher ups, so here is what I said to @Wqlk

"I did not know the server did not endorse IRL deals. Now that I know that I see why this would not happen. However, I do believe it is going to continue to happen because it is so hard to control. Might as well make this experience as positive as possible for everyone. Protected IRL deals means more of them are made, and the more IRL deals are made, the more donations to the server are made. Win-win for literally everybody."

I stand by that because it’s true. People will still make IRL deals happen and we might as well make the best of it for everyone.

Ive done over 500$ in IRL deals. Just dont go first the irl buyer goes first. Take screen shots or record.
See the problem with that is when I got scammed $20M in-game, there is nothing anyone could do.

"no IRL money has been lost in this transaction." - decay

"If no one was scammed for real life money then nothing can be done unfortunately. " - Toast

This is for peace of mind for both parties of the deal, so both can rest assured they will both get what they were promised. That was my vision.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Well, I mean you could just do a thing where when you buy a item in the /buy GUI it gives you a piece of paper (Say a rank such and such.) then you could trade that to other players for in-game money. Solving the scam part, also making it easier to code ect.

This is a great idea!

That is exactly what I have been thinking, I have missed so many trades for not having enough trust it people
The one time I decided to trust it, I got scammed 20 million. This is why we need protection for all players! People work hard to grind money in-game!

Although this seems like it would take a long time, I think its a great idea and a much safer way to do IRL deals!! If enough people want it to happen and the staff is ok with it I think it would be great for the community : )

Thank you!! :) I feel that the time would be worth it!

Stupid idea, waste the developers time, just make the irl deal go first and not get scammed you just have to have atleast a brain to do the traditional way!

What do you mean by "go faster"?

This is also been suggested since people paying with IRL money do not want to go first for fear of being scammed.

THE IRL DEALER GOES FIRST, and dont do the irl deal if they wont go first cause then they are tryna scam you dont let them manipulate u

Unfortunately, this is not a perfect world and you never really know anyone's intentions. You also cannot control other people and make them go first even if you want them to. With this method, we remove the paranoia, and the toxicity that comes with most IRL deals. Hope this helps :)

IRL deals are not recommended by staff. Yes, they happen, and it would be handy to implement a feature like this, but IL doesn't support trading in-game currency for things bought with real-life money. If you are to do a deal of this kind, it is on your own terms and Invaded isn't responsible for anyone who loses in-game items/currency.

If you want to do an IRL deal, follow the basics: The person paying real money goes first, make sure you actually know/trust the person you're dealing with, and record/screenshot the deal.

if you buy anything with the '/buy' GUI, it would produce a piece of paper that contained the item, which could then be traded to other players.

This^ could very easily lead to a duping issue. It would also be much easier to lose and/or have stolen from you. All in all probably not a good idea to have ranks/perks/etc be a physical thing the player can hold.

irl deals r at ur own risk they arent endorsed by mods+
I recently learned of that, so here is what I said to Wqlk:

I'd refer to what I said in the post I just made, where I said this to Wqlk:

As far as the duping issue, I understand where you're coming from, and I know that could be an issue. For me personally, I'm just looking for a way that the paranoia and toxicity around IRL deals to be eliminated and everyone can continue playing the server with a better sense of security about any deals they want to make. If that system of transfer does not work, I'm sure another would. Thank you for your comment and feedback! :) I really appreciate having open dialogues about things like this! :D
